  1. Start the day with love - a hug at wake up time, a healthy breakfast, and a kiss at drop off are great ways to start the school day.
  2. Get involved - take an active interest in school by getting to know the teachers, participating in school sponsored events, and volunteering in the classroom.
  3. Partner with the teacher – share what might be helpful and listen to what the teacher has to offer – both of you want what is best for your child.
  4. Focus on the strengths - try to appreciate what your child does well instead of focusing all of your energy on challenges.  What you focus on grows.
  5. Encourage independence – let your child take the lead when choosing a shirt for the day, cleaning up toys, or picking an item for show and tell.
  6. Schedule downtime - school and activities are important, but so is time for rest , play and imagination.
  7. Practice daily conversation – talk with your child about their day, their feelings and their interests.  Develop communication skills and your relationship.
  8. Listen without fixing – there are times when offering suggestions and lessons are valuable, but children also appreciate just being heard.  Allow them to share their experience.
  9. Prepare the night before - pick out clothes, make lunch, or organize the backpack together so you can take some steps out of your busy morning.
  10. Make sleep a priority - develop a consistent night time routine so your child feels rested and ready for a great school day.
