Friends,

I just read this Wall Street Journal article about the Life Coach that assisted our Ryder Cup Team -

Life Coach – Ryder Cup

My favorite quote…..

“During the competition, Dr. Braund (the life coach) rode in the cart with Mr. Azinger and helped him keep on point with his “messaging” to players. Sometimes, the message was no message,” Dr. Braund said. “Paul would just drive by, show a smiling face and ask if everything was OK.”

A coach’s job is to support, strategize, listen, offer information, and sometimes just give that helpful caring smile. It makes me happy that coaching is now a utilized and respected tool within the sporting world – these golfers can tell you that it made a difference.

If you are a parent you are experiencing the most demanding and most important job of your life – it involves patience, listening, supporting, giving, receiving, choices, challenges, learning, changing, accepting, growing……the list goes on and on. It is the greatest responsibility in the world, yet parents still share with me that they feel “embarrassed” or “inapt” if they seek support or education. It is the job of the parent to help the child grow and evolve, but there is not enough emphasis on parental growth and awareness. If there is any job that requires consistent support and continuous learning, it is parenting.

The Ryder Cup team was given support, new strategy, and an opportunity to focus on their individual strengths. It is no surprise that they brought home a victory.
